Boeing Goldcare Hangar
Gatwick Airport
The new Boeing Goldcare ‘super hangar’ based at Gatwick Airport will enable Boeing to perform maintenance, repairs and overhaul of their current and future fleet of planes. The hangar offers a 15,000 m2 dual-bay wide body facility and 3,000m2 of support offices, storage and plant space. It is capable of holding eight Boeing 737 aircraft, or two jumbo jets side-by-side. The large size of the building also took into account the new Boeing 777X aircraft due to be commissioned into flight in 2020. The aircrafts wingspan is over 235 feet, 5 in (71.75 m) however to make the plane more compact the wind tips can be folded reducing its span to 212 feet, 8 in (64.82 m).
This £88m facility is predicted to support 475 jobs, whilst creating over 200 new jobs and will develop the long-term partnership between Boeing and the UK Government.
