National Performance Centre for Sport

Edinburgh

J & D Pierce (Contracts) Ltd. were awarded the 1,700t steelwork package for the new National Performance Centre for Sport Scotland / Heriot Watt University. The award from Bowmer & Kirkland follows our re-engineering, with Engenuiti of the feature roof structure, inspired by the angle and trajectory of the free kick ‘wonder goal’ taken by Roberto Carlos for Brazil against France in the 1997 inaugural match of the Tournoi de France.

J&D Pierce worked very closely with Bowmer & Kirkland, the design team from architects, Reiach & Hall and structural engineer, Engenuiti, to develop and re-engineer the structure to provide an economical solution and programme for the client. This collaboration helped earn The National Performance Centre the Structural Steel Award 2017.
